Word doc Pdf doc November 10, 2009 - Dinner Meeting – Tuesday, November 10, 2009 - An excellent program - Thanks Kate! Program: "Partnership for Working Families" – Joining us will be Kate Atkins, Director of the Garden State Alliance for a New Economy (GANE). Kate has a tremendous amount of experience working with progressive groups that have taken the lead in community and labor organizing. Kate has fifteen years of experience in labor and community organizing. She began her work with the Kensington Joint Action Council, a longstanding neighborhood organization in Philadelphia. She worked for ten years with ACORN--though her experience did not include assisting undercover reporters freelancing for Fox News, only helping to pass some of the strongest anti-predatory lending legislation in the nation and creating a new affordable housing program that helped thousands of working families in New Jersey afford the state's high rents. She was a clergy and community organizer with the Service Employees International Union local 32BJ as they organized cafeteria workers in New Jersey. She has a degree in sociology from Swarthmore College, and is fluent in Spanish. This program was very interesting evening with a top notch speaker. This powerful concept is unknown to most of us and this dinner provided an excellent opportunity to learn about it and have our questions answered in a collegial atmosphere. Chapter President Ed Lynch of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union has arranged for this special event. Please thank him for his efforts. Your applause is essential! May 13, 2009: Dinner Program - What's Pending in Congress? - Matters affecting Workers' Rights. Mike Russo, the former Director of the 20th Congressional district for then Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand and now Senator Gillibrand’s 12 county Capital Region Director. He was also candidate for NYS Senate 43rd District (Joe Bruno's retired Majority Leader seat). Prior to that he was the Northeastern US Rep for the Glass, Ceramic and Plastic Molding et al industrial union for several years, has done much in the area of Labor-Management Cooperation, labor consulting, etc. He has spoken widely on behalf of Congresswoman and now Senator Gillibrand and is totally familiar with Federal and State labor legislation. Mike has followed politics since he was high school student - a very capable and knowledgeable speaker. Make sure you hear this talk! Bring your Associates too. May 2007 - Substance Abuse Testing - Topic - Drug testing in the Workplace Excellent Presentation click here for the Power Point Slides (must have Power Point installed) Presenter: Dr. Athol - Clarity Testing Dr. Altholz discussed the latest trends in substance abuse as well as how to spot someone who is using/abusing “drugs”. He also discussed employer testing options, background screening, and the inclusion of substance testing in collective bargaining agreements. Dr. Athol graduated Albert Einstein College of Medicine in NYC and is a certified medical review officer (AAMRO), board certified internal medicine (ABIM), and certified occupational hearing conservationist (CAOHC). He is the leading authority in onsite occupational testing in the northeast and consults to business, industry, labor and government in the field of Drug Testing and Occupational Medicine.
